"My
intention is to be a leader in cutting the size
of government and to carry the message to other
members of Congress, both privately and in session,
and to the People. Taxes account for over 50%
of everything we buy. Add to that, the cost of
regulation and other enforcement costs and our
government commands control of at least 70 cents
of every dollar. Businesses can be destroyed by
taxation and regulation, but ultimately a business
must pass the cost to its customers or reduce
those costs by cutting the wages and benefits
of its workers. If a business fails to maintain
profits, the company will go out of business.
In reality, a business only has two costs: the
cost of government, which cannot be negotiated,
and workers’ wages and benefits, which can be
controlled. If we can show the People that bigger
government only results in a lower standard of
living, then we will not only create better lives
for ourselves but also ensure our future prosperity.
We cannot simply cut taxes, we must cut the size
of government." -
