Tort
Reform
I WILL FIGHT TO REDUCE THE ENDLESS LITIGATION
THAT DRIVES UP THE COST OF EVERYTHING WE CONSUME.
Our
attorney-filled Congress has turned the United
States into the most litigious country in the
world. Litigation has gone from costing less
than 2 cents of every dollar in the 1970s to
costing consumers 6 to 8 cents today. Congress
should pass tort reform immediately. Tort attorneys
contribute millions of dollars to political
candidates to enhance and defend laws that improve
their livelihood. The high cost of insurance
and settlement payments on lawsuits is an unseen
tax on consumer goods. Although settlements
for the clients often range from coupons to
pennies, attorneys receive millions in fees
and businesses are often forced to settle regardless
of their liability to avoid costly litigation.
